New Delhi: The Maharashtra assembly elections are just around the corner. The Central Election Commission will hold a press conference on Tuesday afternoon. It is likely that the Code of Conduct for the assembly elections will come into effect from Tuesday. The Mahayuti (Grand Alliance) is ready with a list of the MLCs nominated by the Governor before the implementation of the Code of Conduct. Out of the 12 vacant seats under the Governor’s quota, the names of seven individuals have been finalised. The oath-taking ceremony for the Governor-nominated MLCs will take place today. Preparations for this swearing-in ceremony are currently afoot in the legislature.
Swearing-in ceremony of Governor-nominated MLCs
The swearing-in ceremony of Governor-appointed MLCs will be held today at 12 noon in the Central Hall of the Vidhan Bhavan. The swearing-in ceremony will take place in the Legislative Assembly in the presence of Deputy Speaker Neelam Gorhe.
The appointment of 12 members to the Legislative Council nominated by the Governor has been stalled for the past five years. Now, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has approved 7 names from the 12 appointed by the Governor. The list of these members was sent to the Governor on Monday. Later that night, the Governor granted approval for these names.
Accordingly, Chitra Wagh, the state president of the BJP Mahila Aghadi, party state general secretary Vikrant Patil, and Babusingh Maharaj Rathod from the Banjara Samaj’s Poharadevi Institution in Washim district have been given opportunity by the BJP.
The Shiv Sena is sending former MP Hemant Patil and former MLA Manisha Kayande to the Legislative Council. Meanwhile, the NCP has appointed Pankaj Bhujbal and Idris Naikwadi as members of the Legislative Council. Today, all seven of these members will take their oaths.
The swearing-in ceremony of these seven Legislative Council members nominated by the Governor will take place at 12 noon. Deputy Speaker Dr Neelam Gorhe will administer the oath to the members of the Legislative Council.
Thackeray group opposes the appointments
The Thackeray faction has raised objections against the seven MLCs appointed by the Governor. A petition will be filed by the Thackeray faction at the Mumbai High Court at 10.30 am on Tuesday. Advocate Siddharth Mehta will be filing the petition on behalf of the Thackeray faction at that time.
