New Delhi: Speculations are rife that Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP Milind Deora may contest against sitting MLA and Sena UBT candidate Aaditya Thackeray in the high-prestige Worli assembly constituency. In the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections, Aaditya became the first member of the Thackeray family to contest and win a seat.
Deora reportedly met CM Eknath Shinde and other party leaders. Talks are underway to field a strong candidate against Aaditya, with Deora emerging as a frontrunner.
Shaina NC also a possible candidate
According to reports, people close to Deora confirmed that there has been discussions but the party will take the final decision in this regard. BJP’s Shaina NC has also emerged as a possible candidate and has been meeting party workers in the area recently. Worli remains one of the few seats not yet allocated by the Mahayuti alliance, with both Shiv Sena and BJP laying claim to it.
If the seat do end up in Shinde Sena’s kitty, Deora is expected to be the likely contender. However, if Deora does not run, Shaina may join the Sena to challenge Aaditya.
Meanwhile, on Friday, BJP got two of its former MPs join the NCP. The Ajit Pawar-led party, part of Mahayuti, announced their candidature for the upcoming assembly polls in the state.
