Mercedes Benz launched the new generation E-Class a few weeks back and one of the defining features of the vehicle was the large Superscreen which spanned the full length of the dashboard. This came as standard on the both the variants offered in India but Mercedes Benz has removed the Superscreen from the lower Avantgarde trim.
Now in our opinion, it is not at all a bad thing, the passenger screen was just too much and we believe that most of the customers of the E-Class would much rather enjoy the back seats of the vehicle rather than the front because what we get in India is the long wheelbase version which is perfect for your chauffer driven needs.
The prices however have remained the same and the E-Class still starts from Rs 78.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The Superscreen incorporated a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.4-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch passenger display. The Avantgarde trim will now not feature the 12.3-inch passenger display. It will however, still be available on the top of the line AMG Line variant of the vehicle.
The Mercedes Benz E-Class is being offered in three versions in India. There is the base E200 which features a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and produces 204 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. The E220d features a 2.0L diesel engine which produces 197 bhp and 440 Nm of torque, and then there is the top of the line E450 which comes with a 3.0L turbocharged V6 petrol engine which produces 381 bhp and 500 Nm of torque and comes with AMG Line trim as well.
Prices for the Mercedes Benz E-Class are as follows:
- E200 Avantgarde: Rs 78.5 lakh (ex-showroom)
- E220d Avantgarde: Rs 81.5 lakh (ex-showroom)
- E450 4Matic AMG Line: Rs 92.5 lakh (ex-showroom)
The E-Class competes with the likes of the recently launched BMW 5-Series LWB which is priced much more affordably at Rs 72.90 lakh (ex-showroom) but it only comes in a single variant and has only one turbo petrol engine option.
