Bareilly: A trial court in Bareilly has stirred a controversy sentencing a person to life imprisonment saying that it was case of love jihad which is an “organised targeting of Hindu girls by Muslim men, who lure and subsequently marry Hindu girls with the objective of converting them to Islam.”
Passing a judgment in a rape case, involving a Hindu girl and a Muslim boy, Additional Sessions Judge (fast track) Bareilly, Ravi Kumar Divakar said, “Love jihad is a part of a larger international conspiracy against India, by a lawless section of one community, using population war with the objective of establishing supremacy.”
Love jihad requires huge amounts of money, foreign funding for love jihad cannot be ruled out: Court
The court also held that considering that “love jihad requires huge amounts of money, foreign funding for love jihad cannot be ruled out.”
These observations by the court came in a case where a Hindu girl from Bareilly alleged that she was lured by a Muslim boy, who posed as a Hindu, had sex with her by duping her and took her pictures and videos and blackmailed her.
What was the victim’s case?
The victim’s case was that she had met the boy while she was studying at computer coaching centre where she met the Muslim boy who posed as a Hindu with the name Anand. According to the victim girl, the boy married her in a Hindu temple in March 2022 and had sex with her thereafter. The victim subsequently got pregnant and went to the boy’s house when she discovered that the boy was a Muslim with name Aalim rather than Anand.
Parents of boy pressured girl to convert and marry Aalim as per Muslim law
The parents of the boy pressured the girl to convert and marry Aalim as per Muslim law. When the girl refused to convert, she was forced to abort her pregnancy and constantly threatened and pressurised to convert.
While deciding the case, the court came to a conclusion that the accused Aalim was guilty of rape and his act amounted to love jihad and were also against the recently enacted Uttar Pradesh law on conversions and convicted him to undergo a punishment of life imprisonment.
The court also said that a section of a community uses marriage as an instrument to target Hindu girls in an organised manner to convert them to Islam.
