New Delhi: In a tragic incident, two employees of a private bank died after their SUV was submerged in waterlogged underpass in Faridabad on Friday. The deceased have been identified as Punyashreya Sharma, the manager of HDFC Bank’s branch in Gurugram’s Sector 31 and Viraj Dwivedi, a cashier.
The incident took place Friday evening when the duo was returning home to Faridabad in a Mahindra XUV700. Incessant rainfall that has been lashing Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) for the past few days has paralysed normal life and also left several areas flooded.
The two bank employees tried to get out of the SUV when their car started getting submerged in water and got stuck but drowned. After getting information about the incident, a police team reached the spot and pulled Sharma’s body out of the vehicle. Dwivedi’s body was found on Saturday after an hours-long search.
Heavy rain batters Delhi-NCR
Delhi-NCR have been witnessing heavy rains for the last three days. The downpour has crippled normal life and also led to traffic chaos and widespread waterlogging in many areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded orange alert, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall for Delhi-NCR. The IMD said that rain may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas and the closure of underpasses, flooding of roads, along with occasional reductions in visibility.
