Tensions escalated in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich on Monday as thousands of protesters blocked roads and placed the body of Ramgopal Mishra on the street. The demonstrators, demanding swift justice, surrounded the District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP), refusing to budge until their demands are met. The DM and SP have been trying to defuse the situation, engaging with the public in an attempt to restore order. However, the crowd remains resolute, and many are now threatening to take matters into their own hands by attacking the areas involved in the earlier violence. Adding to the unrest, the public has made serious allegations against the police, accusing them of failing to prevent the clashes and mishandling the situation. Ramgopal, who had been married just three months ago, was killed during an altercation between two communities. His grieving family is demanding justice, specifically calling for an encounter killing of the accused and the use of bulldozers to demolish properties.
