Dehradun: The much-anticipated dates for the opening of the doors of the revered Badrinath shrine will be determined on Basant Panchami, Sunday, February 2, at the Narendra Nagar Rajdarbar.
This decision will be made after the Panchang (Hindu Calendar) calculation. Additionally, this year’s Uttarakhand Char Dham Yatra will commence on Akshaya Tritiya, April 30.
A religious ceremony will begin at 10:30 am on February 2
According to Dr. Harish Gaur, Media In-charge of the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC), a religious ceremony will begin at 10:30 AM on February 2 at the Narendra Nagar Rajdarbar to determine the date for opening the doors of Shri Badrinath Dham. After proper worship and Panchang calculation, the date will be announced. On the same day, the date for the Tel Kalash Gadu Ghada Yatra will also be decided. Preparations for this ceremony have been underway by the Rajmahal Narendra Nagar and the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee.
BKTC will hand over the oil kalash (oil pot) to the Dimri Religious Central Panchayat in Jyotirmath
Prior to this event, on January 30, the temple committee will hand over the oil kalash (oil pot) known as the Gadu pitcher to the Dimri Religious Central Panchayat at Shri Narasimha Temple in Jyotirmath. After offering prayers at Yogabadri Pandukeshwar and Shri Narsimha Temple in Jyotirmath, the Panchayat representatives will hand over the pitcher to the Rajmahal on February 2. This kalash, filled with sesame oil, will be brought to Shri Badrinath Dham on the day of the door opening.

The ceremony to decide the date of opening the doors will be attended by Maharaja Manujyendra Shah, MP Mala Rajyalakshmi Shah, Princess Shirja Shah, Rajpurohit Krishna Prasad Uniyal, BKTC Chief Executive Officer Vijay Prasad Thapliyal, Executive Engineer Anil Dhyani, Dharmadhikari Radhakrishna Thapliyal, Assistant Engineer Vipin Tiwari, Private Secretary Pramod Nautiyal, Vedpathi Ravindra Bhatt, along with Dimri religious central panchayat officials, saints, and devotees.
Opening date for Kedarnath shrine will be decided on Shivratri, 26 Feb
It has also been announced that the date for opening the doors of Shri Kedarnath Dham will be decided by Rawal, Dharmadhikari Vedpathi after Panchang calculation at Shri Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath on Shivratri, Wednesday, February 26.
Char Dham yatra will start from Akshaya Tritiya on Wednesday, April 30
It is noteworthy that this year’s Char Dham Yatra will start from Akshaya Tritiya on Wednesday, April 30. Traditionally, the doors of Shri Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham open on Akshaya Tritiya. However, the official opening dates will be announced by the Shri Gangotri Temple Committee and Shri Yamunotri Temple Committee on Hindu New Year and Yamuna Jayanti, respectively, along with the arrival of Dev Dolis to the Dham.
Opening dates for second and third Kedar will be decided on the day of Baisakhi
Preparations for the Uttarakhand Char Dham yatra are in full swing. The dates for opening the doors of the second Kedar, Madhyamaheshwar, and the third Kedar, Tungnath, will be decided on the day of Baisakhi. With these announcements, the spiritual journey of the Char Dham Yatra is set to begin, bringing devotees from all over the country to the holy sites in Uttarakhand.
