Mumbai: The Crime Branch of Mumbai Police have arrested two more accused in connection with the murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddiqui. So far, a total of 18 accused have been arrested in connection with the murder.
Both the two new accused have been arrested from Pune. According to police, the arrested accused was in touch with Praveen Lonkar. It is alleged that Lonkar gave 30 cartridges to the two accused to hide them. The two arrested accused were produced in court and sent to Mumbai crime branch custody till November 13.
16th accused arrested by Mumbai Police on Wednesday
On Wednesday, the crime branch arrested Gaurav Apune (23) for his involvement in the murder. Police claimed that Apune held several meetings with other accused to plan the murder of former NCP leader.
The police also said that Apune was in touch with shooters who were contracted to carry out Baba Siddiqui’s murder.
Apune promised Rs 25 lakh cash and flat
Apune has now been sent him to police remand till November 13. According to police, Apune was promised Rs 25 lakh cash, a flat, and a vehicle for killing Baba Siddiqui. The accused was trained in firearms by some of the absconding accused.
The NCP leader was shot dead by unidentified gunmen outside the office if son Zeeshan Siddiqui in Mumbai’s Bandra on October 12.
Earlier, a Facebook post claiming to be from Lawrence Bishnoi gang took the responsibility of Baba Siddiqui murder. Other media reports suggest that Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother Anmol, who is based in Canada and who frequently travels to United States, is allegedly involved in the murder. Police have so far failed to reveal what was the motive behind the murder of Baba Siddiqui.
Within two days of Baba Siddiqui murder, the Mumbai Police was able to arrest two shooters-Gurmail Baljit Singh and Dharmaraj Kashyap, who are from Haryana and UP respectively.
