New Delhi: AAP leader and former Delhi minister Satyendra Jain was released from Tihar Jail on Friday evening after he was given bail in the money laundering case.
After he stepped out of the prison premises, Delhi chief minister Atishi and other AAP leaders like Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, greeted him. A bevy of AAP backers had gathered outside Tihar Jail to celebrate the former health minister’s release from jail after around two years.
“Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh and I have come out of jail, and we will finish all the incomplete work in Delhi now,” said Jain while addressing the supporters.
Taking a swipe at the BJP over its attempt to get every AAP leader framed in ‘false cases’, Jain said Atishi, who is the CM of Delhi, would also have to go to jail. “Atishi ji you will also have to go to jail … We will continue to fight against injustice,” Jain quipped. Delhi CM Atishi, who was present outside the jail to greet Jain, said, “Satya ki vijay hui hai” (Truth has prevailed). Sisodia remarked, “It is a matter of great joy, our hero has returned.”
‘Satyamev Jayate’: AAP hails decision
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Jain on May 30, 2022, following charges of money laundering through four firms allegedly linked to him. On Friday, the Rouse Avenue court in Delhi granted bail to the former minister, citing “delay in trial” and his “long incarceration” as the reasons behind the verdict.
Hailing the decision, the AAP said it was a triumph of truth and a defeat of another alleged plot by the BJP. In a post on X, the AAP wrote, “Satyamev Jayate. Another conspiracy of BJP failed as Satyendra Jain ji, who brought about health revolution in Delhi by building magnificent Mohalla Clinics, got bail from the court. The real face of BJP has been exposed again now in front of the entire country.”
It was in 2017 that the ED made a case against Jain after an FIR filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
