New Delhi: At least four people were killed while 21 others suffered injuries after a bus carrying at least 27 passengers from Almora to Haldwani plunged into a 1,500-foot-deep gorge near Bhimtal in Uttarakhand’s Nainital district on Monday. The driver allegedly lost control of the wheels and leading to the accident.
The accident occurred on the Bhimtal-Ranibagh road. Locals along with police launched a rescue operation and rescued passengers from the gorge using ropes. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals.

Pushkar Singh Dhami expresses condolences
“A roadways bus was heading from Pithoragarh to Haldwani. The driver lost control of the bus and it fell into a deep gorge. The injured have been rescued with the help of locals. 21 people have been injured and 4 people have died,” said Dr Jagdish Chandra, SP Nainital, while talking to news agency ANI.

Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his condolences on the incident in a post on social media platform X. “The news of the bus accident near Bhimtal is very sad. The local administration has been directed to carry out immediate relief and rescue operations. I pray to Baba Kedar for the safety of all the travellers,” he wrote. Dhami also instructed the administration to expedite rescue efforts and provide the injured with necessary medical aid.
