Imphal: An incident of indiscriminate firing took place in villages of Sanasabi and Thamnapokpi, located in Imphal East, Manipur on Friday. Armed militants, believed to be Kuki insurgents, attacked these villages without any provocation, resulting in injuries to both civilians and security personnel.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Saturday strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a “cowardly and unprovoked assault on innocent lives.” He called the attack an attempt to disrupt the peace and harmony in the region and stressed that such acts of violence would not be tolerated. In his tweet on X, the CM assured the public that adequate security forces had been deployed to the affected areas, with both local police and central forces working together to ensure the safety of the people.

Explosives used in attack
According to officials from Imphal East district, the militants arrived in the villages of Sanasabi and Thamnapokpi in the late hours, firing indiscriminately at villagers.
In addition to the gunfire, the attackers also planted explosives, causing extensive damage to several homes.
As the security forces responded to the attack, they managed to evacuate many women and children from the affected areas. However, there were reports of injuries among both civilians and security personnel.
