Srinagar: Making a supreme sacrifice for the country, Phantom, the army dog laid down his life during an encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Akhnoor district of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). Sharing details, the Indian Army said that as the troops were moving near the terrorists, Phatam drew enemy fire, sustaining injuries.
“We salute the supreme sacrifice of our true hero—a valiant Indian Army Dog, Phantom. As our troops were closing in on the trapped terrorists, Phantom drew enemy fire, sustaining fatal injuries. His courage, loyalty, and dedication will never be forgotten. In the ongoing operation, one terrorist has been neutralized and Warlike stores have been recovered thus far, the Indian Army said in a statement on Monday.
Terrorists opened fire at an army convoy
Earlier in the day, the terrorists opened fire at an Army convoy targeting an ambulance. Soon after this, the special forces and NSG commandos launched a massive operation to track the terrorists. During the operation, the Army had also pressed its four BMP-II infantry combat vehicles for surveillance near the attack site.
One terrorist killed in an encounter
Sharing further details, the officials said that, who were believed to be three in number entered the country from across the border last night. They reportedly targeted an Indian Army convoy. After the attack, both of its occupants remained unharmed. The terrorists fled from the spot after the retaliation by the armed forces and were later located inside a basement, which was followed by an exchange of fire in which one of the terrorists was killed.
