Hyderabad: The six-lane grade separator connecting Aramgarh to Zoo Park on National Highway 44 has officially been named Dr Manmohan Singh Expressway. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Standing Committee, led by Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi, approved the naming on Thursday.
During the meeting, the Standing Committee also cleared the Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme (CRMP). The proposal outlines two options for Phase-II: maintenance of 1,142.54 km of roads, including new and existing stretches, for five years (2025–2030) at an estimated cost of Rs 3,825 crore or 744.22 km of roads for all zones at Rs 2,491 crore over the same period.
Flyovers to ease congestion
Apart from that, several infrastructure projects, including flyovers and underpasses, were sanctioned. Among the notable plans are steel flyovers and underpasses at key locations such as Mugdha Junction, KBR Park Entrance Junction and Jubilee Hills. The Aramgarh-Zoo Park flyover, the second-longest in Hyderabad, spans 4.04 kilometres and features a bi-directional design. It is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion between Zoo Park and Aramgarh.
Ramp works underway
Construction of ramps is underway near Janata Petrol Pump to facilitate smoother traffic flow from Shastripuram and Danama Jhopdi toward Aramgarh. Another ramp at Hasan Nagar X-road is being built for vehicles heading from Aramgarh to Hasan Nagar, Danama Jhopdi and Shastripuram. Once operational, the ramps are projected to alleviate traffic issues across several major urban areas in Hyderabad.
