Apple Inc. is undergoing significant changes at the top as several senior executives leave the company as per a report by Mark Gurman. This wave of departures includes the Chief People Officer, marking a rare and swift turnover for Apple’s leadership team.
Carol Surface, who took on the role of Chief People Officer at Apple in early 2023, is leaving the company after less than two years. Surface joined Apple from Medtronic, a health technology company, to oversee human resources, diversity, and recruitment for Apple’s 160,000 employees. Her departure is unexpected, as senior leaders at Apple typically remain for longer periods.
Deirdre O’Brien Steps Back In
With Surface leaving, Deirdre O’Brien will return to her previous role managing both the people team and Apple’s retail stores. O’Brien has been a steady presence at Apple, and her return aims to maintain stability within the company’s operations.
Other Key Exits at Apple
Apple isn’t the only part of the company experiencing changes. Several other top executives are also leaving:
- Luca Maestri, Chief Financial Officer, is stepping down but will stay on to handle real estate and information systems.
- Dan Riccio, a senior engineering leader known for his work on the Vision Pro project, is retiring this month.
- Dan Rosckes, the procurement chief, is also exiting Apple.
- Matt Fischer, who headed the App Store, will leave the company in October.
