Hardoi: After alleged train derailment attempts in Kanpur, Ajmer and Solar, an alleged sabotage bid involving Durgiana Express has come to light. The Kolkata-Amritsar train collided with an overhead wire in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi early Wednesday morning, leading to a strong explosion. However, nothing untoward happened.
The train left Lucknow at 3:30 am on Wednesday. As soon as it passed Umratali station at 5 am, it collided with the overhead wire hanging on the track. Following the collision and a blast, a fault occurred in the line. The loco pilot, subsequently, stopped the train and informed Umratali and Dalelnagar stations. Later, all trains coming from Lucknow were halted.

Several trains affected due to Hardoi incident
Following the incident, Rajdhani and Vande Bharat trains were diverted after being halted for hours. Besides, the routes of about two dozen trains were changed. Two trains were canceled due to the disruption. Following the incident, many officials and relief trains from Lucknow, Hardoi and Balamau reached the spot. The Durgiana Express was re-routed after a six-hour halt.
Railway sources said that a conspiracy was alleged hatched to blow up the train through an electric short circuit. The cable of the electric pole with which the Durgiana Express train collided was tampered with by someone, the sources added. It is being suspected the wire was tampered with to cause a short circuit and subsequent explosion.
Train derailment attempts
Earlier, an attempt was made to derail the Bhiwani-Prayagraj Kalindi Express in Kanpur by putting an LPG cylinder on tracks, along with a bottle of petrol and matchboxes. In another similar incident, an attempt was made to derail a goods train in Rajasthan’s Ajmer by placing two large cement blocks on track. Similar incident was reported in Maharashtra’s Solar where large cement stone was found on the track near Kurduvadi railway station to allegedly derail a goods train. The authorities are investigating the incidents with all angles and suspect a big conspiracy behind them.
