Ajmer: After the sabotage attempt on the Kalindi Express in Kanpur on Sunday, another similar attempt to derail a train came to light from Rajasthan’s Ajmer after a goods train hit large concrete blocks kept on the track in Saradhan Bangad village on the route to Ahmedabad.
A major train accident was averted on Sunday night after the loco pilot of the train applied emergency brakes as the engine hit an obstruction on the track and immediately alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF) who carried out a thorough inspection.
The incident took place in the wee hours of Tuesday when the train was travelling from Ajmer’s Phulera to Ahmedabad in Gujarat. The train was near the Saradhan station when the engine hit something on the track, bringing it to a screeching halt.
Upon inspection, RPF personnel found a large concrete block, weighing around 100 kilograms, kept on the track in an attempt to derail the train. The train engine had crushed through the block, scattering pieces of it around the spot.
The RPF has lodged an FIR against unidentified persons at the Mangaliyavas station in this connection and further investigation is underway to nab the culprits.
