New Delhi: The Anmol Bishnoi gang orchestrated the killing of Baba Siddiqui, a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former Minister of State, last year. This murder was part of an intentional and calculated plan to sow fear and assert control over the region. The Mumbai Crime Branch on Monday submitted a 4,590-page charge sheet to the Special MCOCA Court in this murder case, which sent shockwaves across the nation.
Baba Siddiqui was shot dead on October 12 last year, in front of his son Zeeshan Siddiqui’s office near the Nirmalnagar Police Station in Bandra (East). The charge sheet has named 26 arrested persons and identifies three absconding suspects: Mohammad Yasin Akhtar (alias Sikandar), Anmol Lavinder Singh Bishnoi (alias Bhanu) and Shubham Rameshwar Lonkar (alias Shubbu).
The probe by the Mumbai Crime Branch revealed that Anmol, a prominent figure in an organised crime syndicate, was the mastermind behind the murder of Baba Siddiqui. Officials said that the murder was meticulously planned to boost the gang’s influence and instill fear among both the rivals and the public.
What the charge sheet highlights
The chargesheet outlines the involvement of the accused, the execution of the murder, and presents compelling evidence, including witness statements, forensic analysis connecting the suspects to the crime scene, and digital communication records that link the gang to the murder.
The case was initially lodged at Nirmalnagar Police Station and was later shifted to the Crime Branch for a more thorough probe. After the murder, as many as 26 suspects were arrested across various states, though three key accused are still on the run.
Authorities are optimistic that the strong evidence collected will bring justice for Siddiqui’s family and society. The case is scheduled for trial in the Special MCOCA Court, while efforts are ongoing to nab the remaining absconding suspects.
