New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah will hold his first meeting on security situation Manipur on Saturday, days after President’s rule was imposed in the state. Among others who will also attend the meeting including Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, senior officials of the state government, army officials, top officials of the paramilitary forces
Earlier, the President’s rule was imposed in the state after the imposition of the President’s rule following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh. The state had been witnessing violence between Meitei and Kuki communities since last couple of years, which has refused to stop since. resident’s rule was imposed in Manipur since 1951.
Governor Bhalla’s ultimatum to miscreants
It may be noted that the security meeting will be held, days after an ultimatum was issued by the governor to miscreants holding illegal and looted arms. Earlier close to 300 weapons were surrendered, including 246 firearms Meitei radical group Arambai Tenggol. On Friday, the Governor extended the deadline for the surrender of looted and illegal arms to March 6.
Several meetings were held to bring normalcy
Since taking over charge, Governor Bhalla held several meetings and took suggestions on how to bring back normalcy in the state. He also held a meeting to discuss the law and order situation in the state and also gave necessary directions to security forces.
Bhalla had earlier closely worked with Shah till August 2024 for five years He was handpicked by the Shah himself for Manipur Governor. The Centre and the state government took several steps to bring normally in the state ever since the violence started. However, he has not yet seen permanent peace.
