Amid suspense over next Delhi CM, Kejriwal, Sisodia meeting today to discuss names

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal will meet Manish Sisodia today to hold talks on who will take over the reins of the Delhi government, a day after the chief minister announced to resign after getting bail in the excise policy case.

In a shock announcement just a day later he walked out of the Tihar Jail after getting bail from the Supreme Court, Kejriwal on Sunday declared that he will resign as the Chief Minister of Delhi and would only come back to the office when the people give their verdict in charges of corruption against him believe that he’s honest.

Notably, one of the conditions laid by the Supreme Court for Kejriwal’s bail is that he cannot attend the Chief Minster’s Office, nor can he sign any official documents.

Sisodia will meet Kejriwal at the latter’s residence at Civil Lines as suspense grows over who will be the next chief minister. This will be Kejriwal’s first meeting after his resignation announcement.

Kejriwal had also announced that he will call a meeting of party MLAs in a few days to appoint the new chief minister. Several AAP leaders are being touted as the contender for the chief minister’s post with Delhi ministers Atishi, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Gopal Rai being seen as frontrunners. Speculation is also rife about Kejriwal’s wife Sunita stepping in her husband’s shoes to run the Delhi government until the Assembly elections earlier next year.
