New Delhi: Amid BJP’s delay in naming the Delhi Chief Minister, senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi minister Gopal Rai slammed the saffron party and warned that the city could see three different CMs over the next five years, similar to what happened during the last BJP tenure.
Gopal Rai underlined that while the BJP secured victory convincingly, choosing a leader has proven to be very challenging, which reflects internal disruptions within the party.
Rai was quoted as saying by news agency PTI that the BJP can’t decide on a CM even after 10 days have passed, which shows the party doesn’t have a clear leader. The AAP leader pointed out, “It could end up like last time, when Delhi had three different CMs during the BJP’s previous term.” Rai stressed that AAP would provide a robust opposition to keep the BJP accountable and ensure it fulfills its commitments to the people of Delhi.
Rai slams BJP’s ‘internal power struggles’
He added that the BJP employed every tactic during the poll campaign, even working with the Election Commission. Despite their efforts, the people of Delhi chose to back us, and we are grateful for that. “Although there is a seat difference, AAP will continue to stand with the people and fight against the BJP.”
Rai also slammed the BJP for its “internal power struggles”, forecasting that whoever becomes the CM will encounter enormous challenges. He said, “The delay in choosing a CM shows the many factions within the BJP. Whoever takes the post will face challenges from other groups within the party, and history could repeat itself.” Rai said that AAP would decide on the Leader of Opposition after the BJP announces its CM and cabinet members.
BJP to choose CM on Feb 19
The new Chief Minister of Delhi is set to be decided on February 19. Sources revealed that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s legislative party meeting is scheduled for Wednesday. All 48 newly elected BJP MLAs will attend the meeting at the Delhi BJP office on Wednesday, where they will choose their leader, who will then be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of the capital. Sources stated that after the meeting on February 19, the leader of the legislative party will visit the Lieutenant Governor’s office to stake the claim to form the government.
