New Delhi: Union Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Monday said the Centre is looking for legislative actions to deal with fake bomb threats to airlines which include placing those found guilty under the no-fly list. Notably close to a hundred flights received hoax calls of bomb threats on airlines in the last ine week.
He added that amendments are being planned for aviation security rules as also suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982. Addressing the media, he also said that the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) is in touch with the Ministry of Home Affairs constantly on the situation of bomb threats to flights.
Lots of hoax bomb threats in the last one week: Minister
“In the last week, we have seen a lot of hoax bomb threats. Since the first day, we have taken these hoax calls seriously. We need to follow a protocol at each and every point. Getting threats that are repetitive and hoaxes. I have also chaired multiple meetings of all stakeholders. We have thought of some legislative action. We are thinking of amending Aircraft Security Rules,” the minister said.
Speaking to the news agency ANI last week, the minister said that while nothing could be said about any kind of conspiracies, these calls are coming from some minors and pranksters. “These are all minor and isolated incidents. There is no kind of conspiracy that we can comment on. From our side, we are going to see what best we can do. We are talking to the airlines, and security agencies, within the ministry also. Consultations are going on,” the agency had quoted him as saying further.

In recent times several hoax calls have been made regarding bomb threats to several flights in India, triggering concerns among authorities and passengers. The incidents not only led to delays in flight operations.
