Ahmedabad: The politics have heated up over the vandalism of BR Ambedkar’s statue in Khokhra area of Ahmedabad. With the people expressing their anger over the incident, leaders of the Congress and BJP have submitted a memorandum to the police to the Police Commissioner, regarding the matter.
With the matter increasing, the Congress has accused the BJP of being against Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. The BJP delegation that met the police commissioner included MPs Dinesh Makwana, Darshana Vaghela, Amit Thackeray. During his meeting with delegations of both parties, the police commissioner assured that the culprits would be nabbed soon.
Around 20 teams formed to nab the accused: Police
Assuring that the culprits would be caught, the police commissioner said that around 20 teams are being formed to nab the accused. The police have so far checked nearly 1,000 cameras.
The statue of Ambedkar was vandalized outside Jayanti Vakil’s Chali near KK Shastri College in Khokhara. People gathered as soon as people came to know about it. Some people also sat on a dharna on the road. The police was forced to close the road from the opposite direction due to the large gathering.
Congress leaders sit on dharna
While the police have started probing the matter, it is also on alert in the area to prevent any escalation. Meanwhile, BJP’s Maninagar MLA Amul Bhatt reached the area and promised action within 24 hours. On the other hand, the Congress leaders who had gone to meet the locals sat on the dharna in protest against the incident
Hitting out at the BJP government over the incident, the Congress said the incident was an example of the deterioration of law and order under the BJP rule. Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani has threatened to stage a fierce agitation if immediate action is not taken.
