Dehradun: The Airport-Thano-Raipur motorway may be expanded into a four-lane road if it receives approval from the government. The temporary section of PWD Rishikesh has initiated the process. In the first phase, a proposal has been submitted to the government for permission to conduct a survey, transfer land, and create a Detailed Project Report (DPR).
Due to the heavy traffic on the Dehradun highway, the Airport-Thano-Raipur motorway will be developed as an alternative route. Preparations have begun, and the 23 km motorway will be upgraded from a double lane to a four-lane road.
A crucial step in addressing the heavy traffic on the Dehradun highway
This expansion is a crucial step in addressing the heavy traffic on the Dehradun highway, as the Airport-Thano-Raipur motorway will serve as an alternative route. Currently, this road is a double lane, but with the proposed four-lane construction, more than two dozen villages from the airport to Raipur are expected to benefit. Improved transport facilities and accelerated development work in the area are some of the anticipated outcomes.
Maharana Pratap Stadium, proposed Assembly House is also situated on this motorway
The motorway holds significant importance, connecting the airport with the capital. Notably, the international level Maharana Pratap Stadium is also situated on this motorway, along with the proposed Vidhan Sabha Bhawan in the Raipur area. The increasing population in the region, with many people from hilly areas settling here, underscores the need for better infrastructure.
Proposal has been sent to the government this month
The expansion of the Airport-Thano-Raipur motorway into a four-lane road is expected to enhance the region’s connectivity, promote economic growth, and improve the quality of life for residents and travelers alike. BN Dwivedi, Executive Engineer, Temporary Section PWD Rishikesh, confirmed that the proposal for the four-lane construction of the Airport-Thano-Raipur motorway has been sent to the government this month. Upon approval, the processes of survey, land transfer, and DPR will be completed, paving the way for this significant infrastructure project.
Motorway sees heavy traffic with private transport services
Throughout the day, the motorway sees heavy traffic with private transport services, buses of the Transport Corporation, and a large number of private and taxi vehicles using the route to reach Dehradun. The presence of numerous restaurants and hotels along the motorway is expected to benefit greatly from the increased traffic due to the four-lane expansion.
