Champawat: After a gas cylinder was found on railway track on Saturday near Roorkee in Uttarakhand, again a conspiracy was hatched to derail the train in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand. However, the accident was averted due to the presence of mind of the loco pilot.
The incident occurred in the Khatima of Udham Singh Nagar district. According to reports, anti-social elements had placed pieces of cable on the railway track in Khatima. Fortunately, the loco pilot of the Dehradun Tanakpur Weekly Express train noticed the obstruction and applied emergency brakes to avert a major accident by stopping the train in time.
A major accident could have happened
The express train traveling from Dehradun to Tanakpur faced a potential disaster when, at around 3:29 am, the loco pilot noticed pieces of cable placed on the railway track. Acting swiftly, the pilot stopped the train and informed the officials, also handing over the cables to the Banbasa station superintendent. If the loco pilot had not noticed the pieces of cable lying on the track, a major accident could have happened. According to the senior sub inspector Khatima police station, Vinod Joshi, “This object is the piece of a cable which is generally used as underground cable to supply electricity in factories. It is a serious crime and we are scanning the CCTV cameras in this area.”
Probe is on in this case
Currently, the Railway Department has lodged a complaint with the Khatima Kotwali police, who have begun investigating the incident. Additionally, other agencies, including the Railway Police Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP), are also involved in the investigation, attempting to identify who placed the thick cable wire on the railway track. Based on the RPF’s complaint, the Khatima Kotwali police have registered a case against unknown individuals.
Similar incident occurred on Saturday morning
In a similar attempt to derail the train, an empty gas cylinder was found on the railway track near Roorkee on 12 October, leading to a potential disaster averted. This empty cylinder was discovered early Saturday morning, and the alert loco pilot managed to stop the approaching goods train, allowing railway police to remove the cylinder safely. Now, both railway and local police are investigating the incident.
