Bengaluru: Online platforms Meesho, Flipkart and Teeshopper faced severe backlash after they were found to be selling Lawrence Bishnoi hero T-shirts online. An X user questioned the companies and claimed such types of merchandise were promoting “online radicalisation”. Netizens also carried a similar sentiment. Following the viral post, Meesho released an official statement.
Alishan Jafri, an X user, brought out the issue through a post. Sharing pictures of the Lawrence Bishnoi T-shirts, available for both adults and kids, he wrote, “People are literally selling gangster merchandise on platforms like @Meesho_Official and Teeshopper. This is just one example of India’s latest online radicalisation.” Further, the X user accused social media influencers were minting money by promoting gang content. Jafri also listed criminal cases from several parts of the country that were motivated by gangster content.
