Al-Qaeda-inspired terror module busted; 12 held in joint operation across three states

New Delhi: An al-Qaeda-inspired terror module was busted in a joint operation by the Delhi Police Special Cell, the Anti-Terrorism Squad in Jharkhand, and state police forces in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Twelve people were arrested in raids at 17 locations around the country.

Module run by Jharkhand-based doctor

The module was run by a Jharkhand-based doctor and its aim was to carry out terrorist activities in the country.

Apart from Dr Ishtiyaq Ahmed, a radiologist in a private clinic, in Ranchi, the other suspects have been identified as Motiur, Rizwan, Mufti Rahmatul lah and Faizan. Other arrested men are Hasan, Enamul, Altaf Ansari, Arshad, Umar Farooq and Shahbaz.

Huge cache of arms seized

“The members of the module have received indoctrination and weapons training at various locations,” a Delhi Police spokesperson said in a statement.

According to reports, raids were carried out at 15 places in Jharkhand, one in Rajasthan and one in Aligarh.

A huge cache of arms including a AK-47 rifle, a 38-bore revolver, a air rifle, one hand grenade have been seized.
