Mumbai: With heavy rains continue to effect normal life out of gear in Maharashtra, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alert for Mumbai till Thursday morning. A number of flights and trains and bus services have been affected in the city due to heavy rains.
Issuing an advisory, the weather Department has asked citizens to avoid going out of their homes unnecessarily. It has also shared a contact number for Mumbaikars though with they can contact officials in case of necessary.
In another statement on X, the Mumbai Police wrote, “India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain with thunder and lightning in Mumbai and Mumbai suburbs till morning on 26/09/2024. Citizens are requested to avoid going out of their homes except for essential reasons.”
As per officials, two flights have been diverted and seven were grounded at Mumbai airport because of the weather. Traffic movements on roads continues to remain slow with trains running behind schedule. The sububurbs of India’s financial capital have been receiving significant rain since afternoon, with Mulund and nearby areas experiencing the heaviest rainfall in the city.
Issuing a statement, Spicejet took to X saying, “Due to bad weather (heavy rain) in Mumbai (BOM), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status via the official website.” Waterlogging can also be seen in railway stations videos of which has gone viral. The authorities have also announced that school s will also remain closed today due to heavy rains.
