New Delhi: An Air India pilot, aged 25, was found dead in her residence in Mumbai, the police said. Her boyfriend has been arrested for allegedly abetting her suicide. The deceased has been identified as Srishti Tuli. Her body was recovered from her Andheri (East) flat. Her 27-year-old boyfriend has been identified as Aditya Pandit. He has been remanded in police custody till November 29.
Girl’s family alleges public abuse by boyfriend
The woman’s family suspects that Pandit murdered the Air India pilot and was trying to portray it as a suicide, an Indian Express report said. The family, originally from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, has accused Pandit of publicly abusing Tuli and controlling her dietary choices, even preventing her from eating non-vegetarian food. The police said that the preliminary probe points to harassment by her boyfriend.
It is alleged that the couple had a spat on Sunday at the women’s apartment following which, Pandit left for Delhi. The police investigation revealed that Tuli phoned and told him that she was going to die by suicide. Pandit, who was also preparing for a pilot exam, came back to the apartment and called a locksmith after finding the door locked from inside. After getting the door opened, he allegedly found Tuli lying unresponsive. Tuli was rushed to Seven Hills Hospital in Marol but the doctors declared her dead. After this, the family and the cops were informed.
Boyfriend sent to police custody
Police said that Pandit was arrested under section 108 of Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita. He was presented before a court after Tuli’s family filed a complaint. He has been sent on police remand for four days. The post-mortem report has suggested that the victim died by suicide.
What did the FIR say
According to reports, Tuli and Pandit met each other when they were undergoing training for their commercial pilot licence in Delhi. Tuli finished her training and secured a job in Air India, and moved to Mumbai last year. The FIR said that in the CCTV footage of the day, Tuli can be seen coming back home from work on Sunday after which she spoke to her mother on phone and showed no signs of distress. The FIR stated that this suggests the spat between the couple may have been the cause of the suicide. On Wednesday, Tuli’s last rites were performed in Gorakhpur.
