Chennai: AIADMK has filed a complaint against BJP Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai for criticizing party chief Edappadi K Palaniswami. The complaint states that Annamalai’s speech disturbed public peace and defamed Edappadi’s reputation.
AIADMK seeks action against BJP’s Annamalai
“Annamalai has spoken disparagingly and tarnished his reputation. And he continues to slander our party and our party’s general secretary. Therefore, appropriate action should be taken against BJP state president Annamalai, who is continuously speaking slanderous things in a way that disturbs public peace and affects law and order,” AIADMK State Medical Wing Joint Secretary Saravanan stated in his complaint.
AIADMK-BJP rift widens
In Tamil Nadu, the AIADMK-BJP allied for four years but parted ways before 2024 Lok Sabha election after Annamalai’s controversial speech against the top leaders of the AIADMK. The AIADMK- BJP fought 2019 parliamentary elections and the 2021 assembly elections. In both these elections, this alliance was worstly defeated in the state. However, it was announced that the alliance would continue in the 2024 parliamentary elections, but the AIADMK broke the alliance in protest against Annamalai’s speech, and both parties lost in the subsequent elections.
Annamalai calls EPS ‘illiterate, AIADMK hits back
As a result, both party leaders are criticizing each other blaming for the defeat. “Annamalai is the one who only tells lies; somehow, he got the post of state president, hence playing too much, Palaniswami cricicised Annamalai recently.
In response to this, Annamalai launched a scathing attack on AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami saying that he was not qualified to talk about him as became the chief of AIADMK by crawling on someone’s feet. “Edappadi Palanisamy, who saved the chair by giving money to the legislators during the AIADMK regime. You (Palaniswami) are a ‘tharkuri’ (illiterate) who has no locus standi to speak about me. In the 2026 Assembly elections, the AIADMK will not even get fourth place,” Annamalai asserted.
