With the advancement in AI technologies, fraudsters are taking advantage of making the best use of AI and taking money out of your pockets! One of the most prevalent scams these days is the AI voice cloning scam where fraudsters clone the voice of a close person of the victim and ask for the money. The voice seems way too real that even close family members can’t process if the person is real or a fraudster, courtesy, AI voice cloning.
Recently, a man in US’s Florida became the victim of AI voice cloning as scammers cloned his voice and tried to scam his parents for $30,000. Not just that, I have recently witnessed a masterpiece of AI voice cloning where Bollywood actress Tripti Dimri is seen to have the voices of different actresses from the industry. At first, it seems like she is dubbing the voices of all the other Bollywood actresses, however, a close watch and the context of the video suggested that it is just the magic of AI!
Truly, AI voice cloning can be really dangerous. Think about your close friend or sibling calling you while asking for money in dire need of an emergency situation, but who is there an AI voice clone? To protect yourself from such AI cloning scams, it is crucial to be aware of and find out the hidden cues. Here is how to protect yourself from AI voice clones.
AI Voice Cloning Scams: How To Spot Them
Prevention is better than cure! If you can spot the AI voice clone before reacting to it, then no one can harm you. Here is how you can identify if the call is from a real person or an AI clone:
- If you feel there is any such call even from your close ones which brings a sense of emergency or suspicion, then always try to observe if the person is speaking inconsistently or robotic. If you feel the person is stuttering at the other end, try to ask about some personal information that is known by you and the person.
- Try to cut the call and make it again. Cross-check all the information while making different calls in that situation. Do not hurry to take action.
- Always check the country code of the call. Is it from your country?
- Never send money. If the person is constantly focusing on just money, there is a high possibility that there is an AI voice-cloned scammer.
- Once you find out the truth, always ensure to report it to the police.
