Srinagar: The unmanned vehicles and Artificial Intelligence (AI) were used in counter-terrorist operation in the Akhnoor area of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), the Indian Army said on Tuesday. Three terrorists were also killed in the operations.
Speaking to media persons, Major General Sameer Shrivastava, GoC 10 Infantry Division, said that another dog was ahead when the army was conducting search operations. It was at this time that he was fired upon by terrorists. It was because of him that several lives were saved, the army officer said further.
Army dog martyred in the incident
Notably, the Indian Army’s four-year-old sniffer dog Phantom sacrificed his life during counter-terror operations on Monday. It sustained sustained bullet injuries while trying to protect the army soldiers from the terror attacks. Addressing the media further, he added that information was being spread that the Army used BMP in the operation. The army had only used the kind of vehicle since moving in the area was tough. The army had used these vehicles after locating terrorists, he added.
“When these people (terrorists) were detected, we received information from the village and hence our reaction was quick. Their purpose for which they had come wasn’t fulfilled and hence they opened fire at our convoy, Shrivastava was quoted by news agency ANI as saying.
‘Terrorists seemed to be looking for bigger purpose’
Sharing further details, Shrivastava further said that the terrorists seemed to be looking for a big purpose. The army was however prepared and intelligence agencies were working in coordination.
Earlier in the day, all three terrorists were eliminated by the security forces in the area after a two-day long encounter, after an Army ambulance, which was part of a convoy, was attacked by them. The incident led to a massive operation by special forces and NSG commandos.
