New Delhi: The Agartala-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express (12520), which departed from Agartala earlier today, derailed near Maligaon in Assam. The incident occurred at approximately 15:55 hrs at Dibolong Station, located in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section under Lumding division.
A total of eight coaches, including the engine and power car, went off the tracks. No casualties or major injuries have been reported so far.
Rescue and relief operations underway
Rescue and relief operations are underway, with a relief train and a medical team dispatched from Lumding. Senior divisional officials are on-site, overseeing the restoration efforts.
Train operations along the Lumding-Badarpur single-line section have been temporarily suspended. The derailment has affected key railway routes connecting Barak Valley, Tripura, Mizoram, and North Manipur, and it is expected to take some time to clear the vital track.
Helpline numbers have been issued for assistance: Lumding – 03674 263120, 03674 263126. Several trains, including the 13174 Sabroom-Sealdah Kanchanjunga Express at Maibong and 15618 Durlabchera-Guwahati Express at New Haflong, have been held up due to the incident.
Northeast Frontier Railway has confirmed that efforts are ongoing to restore normalcy as soon as possible.
