Dehradun: With inclusion of Yoga in 38th National Games this year, Uttarakhand aims to introduce Yoga in Olympics. Now, this campaign is to take off from Uttarakhand. The inclusion of yoga in the 38th National Games is believed to yield long-term results.
Hosting National Games and first-time inclusion of Yoga in the event brought immense happiness for the people in Uttarakhand. Apart from this, the central government has launched a campaign to include yoga in the Olympic Games.
India has raised this demand on many platforms
India has raised this demand effectively on many platforms. The central government is trying to include yoga in the next Olympic Games on a preliminary basis. After this, yoga should be recognized as a medal game in the Olympic Games of the year 2036.
There have been talks of making yoga a part of the national games, but it has been formally included in the 38th National Games to be held in Uttarakhand. The Central Sports and Youth Welfare Department has established a separate federation for yoga, which is actively lobbying for its inclusion in the Olympics. This is being hailed as a significant achievement for both Uttarakhand and yoga enthusiasts.
CM Dhami’s role and recognition
Dr. DK Singh, General Secretary of the Uttarakhand Olympic Association, has credited Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for this accomplishment. Dr. Singh noted that CM Dhami’s strong lobbying efforts with the Indian Olympic Association have led to yoga being included in the National Games. This marks a milestone, as India had long sought to include yoga in the Olympic Games, but it was not even part of its national games until now. With its inclusion in the 38th National Games, effective lobbying at the international level is now possible.
The yoga competition is scheduled to take place in Almora
Uttarakhand has received the formal letter to include yoga and mallakhamb in the National Games, with this information publicly shared by Indian Olympic Association President Dr. PT Usha during the mascot ceremony. Dr. DK Singh mentioned that the Director of Competition (DOC) team would arrive in Uttarakhand within two to three days to oversee preparations. The yoga competition is scheduled to take place in Almora, while Khatima has been selected as the venue for mallakhamb.
Increasing global acceptance of Yoga
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has significantly promoted yoga worldwide, especially as the brand ambassador of International Yoga Day. Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed that under PM Modi’s leadership, yoga has gained extensive global recognition. CM Dhami is optimistic that yoga will soon be a part of the Olympic Games and feels fortunate that Uttarakhand is hosting the 38th Games, which includes yoga as an event. This, he believes, will strengthen efforts to incorporate yoga into the Olympics.
