Khandwa: Amid a series of wolf attacks in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich, one such attack was also reported in Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh where five people of the same family were injured after being attacked by a wolf late Friday night. The incident took place in Malgaon village in tribal-dominated Khalwa tehsil, some 20 kilometres from the district headquarters, officials said.
The injured people, including a woman, were admitted to Khandwa Medical College Hospital following the attack and were given rabies shots and medicines. While the woman suffered injuries on her hands, the four men have been bitten on the hands.
A police official said that the wild animal attacked the family at 2.30 am when they were asleep. On being attacked, they started screaming. Alerted by this, neighbours and others gathered there and chased away the wolf, Harsud Sub Divisional Officer of Police Sandeep Vaskale said, PTI reported.
Patrolling increased, efforts on to catch wild animal
Khandwa Divisional Forest Officer Rakesh Damor said that efforts are being made to capture the animal and patrolling in the area has been intensified. He said that the family was attacked by only one animal and not by a pack of wolves. The DFO further said that it is still unclear if the animal was a wolf or jackal. “A purported video clip has gone viral which shows the animal. It looks like a jackal to me, a bit smaller than a wolf,” the DFO said.
Wolf terror grips Bahraich
The Madhya Pradesh incident comes at a time fear of killer wolves has gripped the people of Bahraich in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh and multiple attacks in the district have made national headlines. The district has been witnessing wolf attacks since March. The attacks increased in mid-July. So far, eight people, including seven children, have been killed in a series of attacks by wolves while more than 36 other were left injured. The forest department has launched massive hunt to capture the wolves with the help of thermal drones and thermos-sensor cameras. So far, four wolves have been caught.
