Dehradun: Badri-Kedar temple committee (BKTC) in Uttarakhand is going to establish a standard operating procedure for bhog and prasad purchases in all the 47 temples which come under this management committee. This decision has come after a controversy erupted in Tirupati temple regarding mixing animal fat in deity prasad.
Additionally, BKTC will also keep an eye on purity as the committee’s president Ajendra Ajay said in a meeting held in Dehradun on Monday, “The purity and dignity of the bhog-prasad system in the temples should remain as before.”
SOP will be prepared for purchasing prasad
A standard operating procedure (SOP) will be prepared for purchasing bhog, prasad and donations in the temples under Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC). For this, BKTC President Ajendra Ajay held a meeting with the officials of the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department on Monday. The management of 47 temples including Badrinath and Kedarnath Dham is under BKTC. In the meeting, Ajendra Ajay said, the purity and dignity of the bhog-prasad system in the temples should be maintained as before.
Quality of prasad will be monitored from time to time
To maintain the quality and purity of the bhog and prasad offered in the temples it will be monitored from time to time. In the meeting, the chief executive officer of the temple committee, Vijay Prasad Thapliyal, said, dry ingredients are used in the prasad in Badrinath and Kedarnath Dham and most of the bhog material is obtained from donors.
Action will be taken against those selling prasad outside the temple
Thapliyal further said that action will be taken against those selling prasad outside the temple premises in accordance with food license registration and storage of food items. Food Safety and Drug Administration Deputy Commissioner GC Kandwal said, the authenticity of the validity of the food license of the supplier of bhog and prasad in temples will be checked.
More vigilance should be exercised in checking the authenticity
It was decided that while purchasing the ingredients for prasad like spices, oil, ghee, more vigilance should be exercised in checking the authenticity of the logos of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India license, Agmark institutions. Under the Eat Right India campaign, food safety training should be given to those who prepare bhog prasad.
