Srinagar: National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah, whose alliance with the Congress secured the majority with 49 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, on Wednesday said a Legislative Party meeting will be held tomorrow followed by an alliance meeting to decide the course of action on government formation.
Speaking about the Lieutenant Governor nominating five MLAs from the BJP, Abdullah cautioned against doing so as “it would not change the government and would unnecessarily nominate 5 members to sit in Opposition” and that would lead to a tussle with the Centre as they will have to approach the Supreme Court against it.
“There would be tensions in our relations with Centre from the first day, a relation that we want to build. Let the Government be formed, let them give suggestions and on that basis, LG should nominate…These 5 MLAs won’t make a change. Independent candidates are talking to us, they will join us so our lead would go up,” he said while speaking to reporters in Srinagar on Wednesday morning.

Omar Abdullah on government formation and swearing-in
The former chief minister said no major decision has been taken yet on the date of swearing in of the chief minister and the party is functioning democratically on the next steps. He said the Legislative Party meeting of the National Conference will be held on Thursday after which another meeting of the alliance with Congress will occur to elect the leader.
The meetings will lead up to a visit to the Raj Bhavan to stake claim to form the government, Abdullah said, stating the coming few days as the timeline for the process.
The National Conference (NC) has become the single largest party in Jammu and Kashmir, securing 42 seats, and is set to form the next government in the Union Territory with its alliance partner, Congress, which won six seats.
