New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan moved Delhi Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday seeking an anticipatory after being booked in connection with an attack on a police team in Jamia Nagar and search for him by the Delhi Police’s Special Cell and the Crime Branch.
The Okhla MLA has sought protection before joining the investigation claiming that the allegations levelled against him are false. The plea will be heard in the court later in the day.
On Wednesday, Khan denied being on the run and accused the Delhi Police of framing him in a false case.
In an email to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, the Okhla MLA asserted that he was in his constituency and not evading authorities.
“Some individuals in the Delhi Police are falsely implicating me in a case. The person they initially came to arrest is already out on bail. To cover up their mistake, they are now dragging me into a fabricated case,” Khan stated in his letter dated February 12.
Police have denied receiving any letter from Khan, saying they are still trying to track him.
The AAP MLA further explained that on Monday, he was informed about some non-functioning temporary pumps in the area and had gone to inspect the situation. While there, he learned that a group of plainclothes individuals, claiming to be from the police, were harassing a local resident.
The Delhi Police have filed an FIR against Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan, accusing him of leading an attack on a police team in Jamia Nagar on Monday.
According to the police, Khan allegedly led a mob that aided a proclaimed offender—an accused in an attempted murder case—in escaping from custody.
A senior police officer stated that the incident took place when the Crime Branch attempted to arrest Shabaz Khan. During the operation, supporters of Amanatullah Khan reportedly confronted the police, allowing Shabaz Khan to flee.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Ravi Kumar Singh denied receiving any letter from Amanatullah Khan regarding the matter.
