New Delhi: Bengaluru, India’s IT capital, lived up to its reputation for traffic chaos, snaring a contingent of 15 German pilots en route to Aero India 2025. The pilots, stuck in the city’s infamous gridlock, missed the air show’s opening ceremony, proving that even high-flying professionals are not immune to Bengaluru’s ground-level realities.
Aero India 2025, showcasing an impressive array of fighter aircraft from nations like India, the US, and Russia, is being held in Bengaluru from February 13th to 17th. The first three days are reserved for business visitors, with the general public gaining access later.
The German pilots, arriving Monday on an A330 passenger plane, were scheduled to attend the opening ceremony. They were staying at a hotel about 17 km from Yelahanka Air Force Station, the venue for the event.
Unaware of the city’s notorious traffic, they departed with ample time but found their taxi trapped in gridlock, the Deccan Herald reported. What should have been a short commute turned into an hours-long ordeal, causing them to miss the opening ceremony entirely.
One pilot recounted being warned about Bengaluru’s traffic by a local guide just days prior, ironically unaware that he would soon experience it firsthand. Despite the frustrating delay, the pilots remained at the venue to attend the remaining program, making the most of their trip despite the inauspicious start.
