Mumbai: Bhojpuri actor-turned-politician Kajal Nishad is making headlines again after she alleged fraud of Rs 70 lakh in a real estate deal in Mumbai’s Goregaon. She has filed a complaint against three people in this connection but things turned interesting when those three also filed a counter-complaint against her.
In her complaint filed at the Dindoshi Police Station, Kajal alleged she paid Rs 70 lakh to a builder to buy an apartment in 2015 but after nine years she has not gotten possession of the house, nor her money back. The complaint named two builders and the owner of a construction company.
In response, the accused have filed a counterclaim, stating their intention to take Kajal Nishad to court.
What is the case?
According to Kajal’s husband and film producer Sanjay Nishad, they booked the flat in 2015 and made payments in instalments to Synergy Construction Company. The agreement was made with Sarita Mantri and Shanti Narayan Rathi.
At the time, the accused assured them that the ownership of the flat belonged to Sarita’s husband, Sunil Mantri. They even completed the registration process. However, before taking possession, Nishad found that the flat’s ownership was disputed and even had an official court notice attached to it, preventing them from taking possession of the property.
Sanjay further claimed after finding these issues, they requested a refund. Initially, the accused kept delaying but in in 2021, an agreement was reached that fixed the flat’s value at Rs 85 lakh. The couple accepted these terms with an initial payment of Rs 46.5 lakh, followed by an additional Rs 15 lakh.
However, due to the 2022 Assembly elections, the Nishads temporarily returned to Gorakhpur, where Kajal was nominated by the Samajwadi Party as a candidate from Campierganj and later for the Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat.
After the elections, when they returned to Mumbai to follow up on the flat, the accused stopped answering their calls, forcing them to file a complaint with the Dindoshi Police. The police are currently investigating the case. Meanwhile, accused Sunil Mantri has denied involvement, threatening to file a defamation suit against Kajal Nishad for dragging him into the matter.
Similarly, Synergy Construction’s owner, Shanti Narayan Rathi, stated that a court-appointed liquidator has taken possession of the flat and claimed they had promised to refund the money, yet Kajal went ahead and filed a complaint regardless.
