New Delhi: An incident of accidental firing occurred at a police station in Chitrakoot district, Uttar Pradesh, during a visit by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG). As a Sub-Inspector (SI) took out his pistol, it suddenly fired, which caused injuries to two inspectors. The inspector handling the pistol and another standing nearby were hit by bullets and seriously injured. The police said that the happened due to negligence. Both injured inspectors are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
DIG Ajay Kumar Singh arrived at Pahadi police station in Chitrakoot district for an inspection on Friday. During the inspection, Sub-Inspector Nanakau Gautam was handling his service pistol when it suddenly fired as he was removing it. According to the police, the incident occurred while SI Gautam was cleaning his pistol. Inspector Gautam was seriously injured in the firing, suffering a gunshot wound to the stomach.
Cops undergo treatment, negligence cited as cause
Inspector Suresh Bahadur Singh, who was standing beside Inspector Nanakau Gautam, was also injured, sustaining a gunshot wound to his hand. Both inspectors have been admitted to the district hospital for further treatment and are currently receiving medical care.
SP Arun Singh, speaking on behalf of the police, attributed the incident to the negligence of SI Nanakau Gautam. However, no decision has been made regarding disciplinary action against him yet. The priority, according to the inspector, is to ensure the injured inspectors receive proper treatment.
The police said that both the injured inspectors are receiving treatment and are being closely monitored to make sure their lives are not at risk. The authorities will determine appropriate action regarding the negligence in due course. Meanwhile, the family members of both inspectors have arrived at the hospital to be with their loved ones.
