Hyderabad: Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday moved to file a case of disproportionate assets against M Venkata Bhoopal Reddy, additional collector (land revenue) of Rangareddy district.
He was booked for amassing wealth and assets vastly disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Searches were conducted at four other places apart from the main house of the accused officer and his close relatives and found movable and immovable properties worth Rs 5,05,71,676 (5 crore) and disproportionate assets worth Rs 4.19 crore. The value of the properties mentioned in documents and actual value is far higher in the open market, the ACB said.
The agency said that the inquiry is still underway in the case.
In September, Bhoopal Reddy was granted bail by the principal judge for the trial of SPE and ACB cases and ordered him to appear before the ACB every Monday and Friday for six months or till the filing of the charge sheet.
Case background:
In August, Bhoopal Reddy and Y Madan Mohan Reddy, senior assistant in the district collectorate were arrested for accepting a bribe worth Rs 8 lakh.
The bribe was accepted reportedly to remove 14 guntas of land from the prohibited list on Dharani portal, which is Telangana’s land record management system.
Madan Mohan Reddy was caught red-handed at Gurramguda X Road near Sanjeevani Vanam with cash in his Maruti Swift Dzire car. When questioned, he said that he was acting on the instructions of MV Bhoopal Reddy and made a phone call to confirm it.
The ACB recovered the money when Madan Mohan Reddy met Bhoopal Reddy at Pedda Amberpet ORR in his official vehicle and handed over the money in a plastic bag.
