New Delhi: After initial setbacks, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and incumbent MLA Amanatullah Khan has taken a major lead from Okhla assembly constituency. He is leading by at least 42000 votes leaving behind AIMIM candidate Shifa Ur Rehman Khan, who is currently behind bars in connection with CAA/NRC related protests.
In the initial trends, BJP’s Manish Chaudhary was leading in the race, but as the day progressed, Amanatullah took the giant lead from his constituency and pushed to the third spot in the constituency. However, Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) candidate leaped to the second spot initially giving a tough fight to Amanatullah.
If Amanatullah Khan wins, this would be his third term as AAP MLA. Khan, a native of a village in UP’s Meerut, began his politics with Lok Jan Shakti Party (LJP) in 2007 and later joined AAP with the Arvind Kejriwal’s anti-corruption movement in 2011.
