New Delhi: All political parties are making a final push to woo voters, as campaigning for the Delhi Assembly Elections is set to end today at 5 PM. While the Delhi elections will be held on 5 February 2025, the results will be announced on 8 February 2025.
The three main contenders are the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). While Congress and the BJP are trying their best to unseat AAP from power in Delhi, the latter is looking to secure a fourth term.
Atishi Takes on Alka Lamba and Ramesh Bidhuri in Kalkaji
Former Delhi CM and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal will hold public rallies in the Chhatarpur and Kalkaji constituencies, urging voters to support Chief Minister Atishi, who is seeking re-election from Kalkaji. She is up against Alka Lamba of Congress and Ramesh Bidhuri of the BJP. In Chhatarpur, AAP candidate Brahm Singh Tanwar is facing BJP’s Kartar Singh Tanwar and Congress’ Rajender Singh Tanwar.
Notably, Brahm Singh Tanwar won the seat in 2020 on an AAP ticket but has now joined the BJP. Apart from AAP and Congress, the BJP is also aiming for victory after 27 years. The last time it was in power was in 1998 when Sushma Swaraj served as Chief Minister for 52 days.
Intense War of Words Between Political Parties
Over the past few days, there has been an intense war of words between political parties, with both sides accusing each other of corruption. The AAP has dubbed the BJP the Bharatiya Jhootha Party, while the BJP has hit back with the same label for AAP.
Meanwhile, Congress, which failed to win any seats in the last two assembly elections, is hoping for a comeback. During its campaign, the party labelled AAP as Farziwal (“Fake”) and a Chhota Recharge (“Small Recharge”) for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
While the BJP had previously criticised AAP for offering revri (freebies), it has now announced a Rs 2,500 monthly allowance for women in Delhi.
