Chandigarh: Even as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) released its first list of 20 candidates for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections, the Congress on Monday said that the seat-sharing talks with the former is not completely over and that the discussion with the party is still on. The state is going to polls on October 5, with results to be announced on October 8.
Speaking to TV9 Network, a source within the Congress said, “Like every other party, The AAP too has the right to release its list, but talks for the alliance are still going on. The Congress’ in-charge in Haryana, Deepak Bavariya, is unwell. Due to this, there has been some hindrance, but the talks have not ended.
‘AAP’s decision unilateral’
“AAP’s decision to release the list is unilateral. There is still scope for alliance from our side. Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi himself took the initiative and talked about opposition unity and alliance to defeat BJP,” he added further.
Pointing that the Congress decided to give some seats to AAP, despite the former having less strength in the state, he added, “Despite AAP having less strength in Haryana, Congress agreed to give some seats. But despite all this, if AAP decides to split the anti-BJP votes instead of keeping them united, then it is their decision.”
AAP releases first list
Earlier in the day, AAP released its first list of 20 candidates. Among the prominent candidates named in the first list include Anurag Dhandha(Kalayat), Vikas Nehra (Meham), and Bijender Hooda (Rohtak). Importantly, the deadline for filing nominations for the Assembly Election in Haryana is September 12. The party has fielded Narendra Sharma from Pundri, while Indu Sharma has been given the ticket to contest from Bhiwani. The party has fielded 11 candidates from constituencies where the Congress has already fielded its candidates.
