New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday said that almost 70 lakh new voters added between the Lok Sabha Elections and Maharashtra Assembly polls, were added from the voting population of Himachal Pradesh. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘ Make in India’ was a good idea but has failed in desired results. He added that the country has still failed to address the problem of unemployment in this country.
Addressing the Lok Sabha on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address, the Congress leader said that even though the country’s economy is growing it id growing at a slow rate at present. He added that the country has failed in organising production and handed them over to China.
“I want to bring to the notice of this House some data, some information about the Maharashtra elections. Between the Lok Sabha election which the INDIA Alliance won and the Assembly election, the voting population of Himachal Pradesh was added to the voter roll of Maharashtra. This means the entire population of Himachal Pradesh was added to the voter lists of Maharashtra. Almost 70 lakh new voters suddenly arrived between Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections,” he claimed.
‘Make in India’ Programme was a good idea: Rahul Gandhi
“The Prime Minister proposed the ‘Make in India’ programme was a good idea. The result is right in front of you. The manufacturing sector fell from 15.3 percent of GDP in 2014 to 12.6 percent of GDP currently. It is the lowest share of manufacturing in 60 years. I am not blaming the Prime Minister, it would not be fair to say that he did not try. I could say that the Prime Minister tried but he failed,” Rahul Gandhi said.
‘India has grown at a slightly lower rate’
He added, “Even as the country has progressed, it is progressing at slightly slower rate now but we are growing. The big problem is that we have not been able to tackle the problem of unemployment. Neither the UPA govt nor the NDA government of today has given a clear answer to the youth of this country about employment.”
“Any country organise two things – consumption and production. The modern way of organising consumption is through services. The modern way of saying organising production is manufacturing, but there is more to production than manufacturing. We have failed in organising production. However we have handed over the organisation of production to the Chinese,” the Congress leader added further.
