New Delhi: In a tragic mishap, five Nepal nationals, who were on their way back from Prayagraj after taking part in the Maha Kumbh, lost their lives after the SUV they were travelling in rammed a divider and turned over in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district on Saturday. The accident took place on the Madhubani four-lane bypass when a speeding car swerved to avoid colliding with a biker performing stunts.
It flipped over multiple times
The impact of the car ramming the divider was so severe that the Scorpio SUV flipped over multiple times. Visuals of the incident reveal that the vehicle was completely crushed, and its windows were shattered. As the vehicle overturned, one of its tyres broke off and entered the car. Blood could be seen splattered on the car.
There were nine occupants in the car. Five of them died on the spot and four others were severely injured, officials said. The deceased have been identified as Archana Thakur, Mantarni Devi, Indu Devi, Bal Krishna Jha, and the driver. The injured are Srishti Thakur, Manohar Thakur, Devtaran Devi and Kamni Jha. All of them hail from Nepal, officials pointed out.
Utter chaos at the crash site
Eyewitnesses said there was utter chaos at the site, and they heard distressing screams after the car crashed. They reported that several men were doing stunts on a bike on the four-lane road. The speeding car almost collided with one of the bikers, causing the driver to swerve in a bid to avoid the crash. However, the vehicle ended up hitting the divider.
As the car turned over, the bikers fled the scene. Police stated that the airbags in the vehicle did not deploy, leading to additional damage to both the victims and the car.
Injured are in a critical state
A senior official reportedly said that five people lost their lives at the scene, while four others were saved from the vehicle. Locals helped in pulling out the injured and rushed them to a nearby hospital. They have been shifted to Shri Krishna Memorial Medical College (SKMCH). Their condition is critical. Nepalese authorities have been intimated about the accident and the victims’ families are being contacted.
