New Delhi: In a major encounter in the forests of Bhambra Gad, located in the Koparshi taluka near the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border, five Naxalites were killed during a joint operation involving C 60 commandos and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The operation comes in response to intelligence regarding a potential disturbance planned by Naxalites ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.
The confrontation unfolded when a patrolling team, acting on credible information about a large gathering of Naxalites in the dense jungle, reached the area. Upon their arrival, the Naxalites opened fire, leading to an intense exchange.
In the retaliatory action, five members of the Naxalite group were neutralised, including three female and two male operatives. One commando sustained injuries during the encounter. Authorities said that both the encounter and the ongoing search operation are still in progress as the team continues to navigate the challenging terrain of the jungle.
Naxalite conspiracy foiled
Maharashtra Police, alongside the C 60 commandos and CRPF, had intercepted information regarding a substantial conspiracy orchestrated by the Naxalites, which aimed to incite chaos during the electoral process. With voting scheduled for November 20, the operation was launched in a bid to foil any potential unrest.
The operation remains active, and as of now, the team is still engaged in the search, meaning that video footage from the scene is not yet available. To facilitate the release of any visuals, the team will need to return to the Gadchiroli headquarters or reach a network zone.
Cops to reveal details in press conference
In a related development, the Superintendent of Police (SP) is set to address a press conference tomorrow, where official details regarding the Naxalite disturbances and the conspiracy surrounding the elections will be disclosed. The authorities said that they are committed to ensuring security during the electoral process and further updates are anticipated as the situation unfolds.
