The Porsche 911 is out and out an enthusiast model. But the Carrera T is the holy grail of enthusiast specs. Its one of the most affordable 911’s and carries on the legacy of having a simple sports car with all the necessities and loose out on everything that is not required.
The 911 Carrera T has been a special model since long and it was reintroduced with the 991.2 generation offering customers a fairly simple yet enjoyable entry way into the 911 lineup. Porsche has now updated the Carrera T with the new 992.2 generation of the vehicle and it is still the simple sports car but this time it is manual only and one can also get it in convertible form.
Manual Only
Yes, you can have the Carrera T with only a manual transmission. Surprisingly, it is a 6-speed manual transmission instead of a 7-speed which we have seen in other Carrera and GTS models. It still has the gear ratios of the first six gears of the 7-speed but does not get the 7th gear. Porsche is really serious about this and in our opinion, this is one of the more sought after options in the Carrera lineup.
It is also one of the lighter Carrera variants as it gets lightweight glass, manual transmission, Porsche has also removed some sound deadening, and one can also option the carbon bucket seats.
Power comes from a familiar 3.0L flat six engine which produces 338 bhp and 450 Nm of torque. Other changes over the precious Carrera T include new brakes, there are now 6-piston brakes front instead of four and Porsche has now given the rear wheel steer as a standard option. It also gets a staggered wheel setup with 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch wheels at the rear.
Visual Changes
The Carrera T has subtle changes and there is not much to differentiate over the regular Carrera models. Porsche likes to use the Vanadium Grey accent colour which can be seen on the side view mirror caps. There is a GTS front spoiler, a sticker package which denotes the model name on the side, and black stainless steel exhaust.
Coming to the interior, we can see the Vanadium Grey trim and the shift knob is a cool looking walnut ball like some special Porsche’s. One can also get a Gentian Blue package for the outside and inside and it gives blue stitching, seat belts and dashboard inserts.
The Carrera T is now also available as a convertible which makes things even more exciting. Cars will start arriving in dealerships from next summer.
