New Delhi: A city court on Tuesday concluded recording the statement of one of the witnesses – wife of a victim – in the killing of three persons in the Pul Bangash area in the national capital during 1984-anti Sikh riots in which Congress leader Jagdish Tytler is facing murder, other charges.
Lakhwinder Kaur, wife of Badal Singh, who was one of the three persons killed by a mob that torched the Gurdwara in the national capital during the 1984-anti Sikh riots, recorded her statement before the court.
Was told by eyewitness that Tytler had come to place of incident in a vehicle and incited a mob, Kaur told court
Special Judge Jitendra Singh recorded the statement of Kaur, who told the court that an eyewitness told her that Tytler had come to the place, where incident took place, in a vehicle and incited a mob.
Kaur told the special judge that the incident by described to her by Surender Singh, who worked as a Granthi in the Gurdwara in 2008 and whom she had met.
“Surender Singh told me that he saw the incident from the roof of the Gurdwara. He told me that he saw my husband Badal Singh exiting from the Gurdwara and saw him being attacked by a mob who took out the kirpan of my husband and stabbed him to death using the same,” Kaur said and added, “He also told me that Tytler had come to the place of the incident in a vehicle and he had gathered everyone,” news agency PTI reported.

She further told the court that Surender Singh told her that the mob engaged in violence on incitement of Tytler and the body of her her husband was put in a cart after he was killed and burnt by placing burning tyres on top of him. She, thereafter, approached the court for investigation, she further added.
The hearing the case will resume on November 23, when the court is likely to record the statement of another victim, Manmohan Kaur.
Court on September 13 framed charges against Tytler
The trial court had on August 30, 2024 ordered the framing of charges against Tytler under sections 302 (murder), 109 (abetment), 147 (rioting), 153A (promoting enmity between groups) and 143 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The court had on September 13 framed the charges against Tytler, who is currently on bail in the case, after he pleaded not guilty to the offences.
CBI filed chargesheet in the case on May 20 last year
The CBI filed the chargesheet in the case on May 20, 2023, alleging that Tytler incited the mob in the Pul Bangash area in the national capital, which led to the burning of three men on November 1, 1984, a day after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated in Delhi.
