New Delhi: Several rivers, including Ganga, Sharda and Ghaghra, continued to be in spate and were flowing above the danger mark as the flood situation in over 15 districts of Uttar Pradesh remained grim. About 2,235 villages have been badly affected by the floods. As many as 17 people have died due to flood-related incidents, Amar Ujala reported, adding that around 3,220 houses have been destroyed in the floods.
The Relief Commissioner’s report stated that Ganga is flowing above the danger mark in Kachhla Bridge (Badaun), Yamuna in Auraiya, Kalpi, Jalaun, and Hamirpur; Sharda in Palliakalan and Sharda Nagar (Lakhimpur Kheri), Ghaghra in Elgin Bridged (Barabanki) and Ayodhya. Water submerged many low-lying localities and colonies in Prayagraj after Ganga and Yamuna river crossed the danger mark. Boats were deployed to rescue flood-hit people of affected villages.
A flood-like situation continues in the low-lying villages in Rampur. Heavy rains have destroyed crops in many villages in the state and there is no fodder left for the livestock. The districts grappling with floods include Rampur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Gonda, Farrukhabad, Bahraich, Sitapur, Ballia, Jalaun, Barabanki, Auraiya, Basti, Banda, and Prayagraj.
Relief money announced for victim’s families
In a post on X, the UP Chief Minister’s office said, “Relief money of Rs 4 lakh each has been provided to the families of the deceased. So far, relief money has been provided to 30 affected people in connection with the loss of 30 animals. 3,056 houses have been damaged. Relief assistance has been distributed in connection.”
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given instructions to deploy NDRF, SDRF and PAC teams as per requirement in the flood-affected areas. A total of 15 teams each of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and 48 teams of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) were reportedly deployed in Ghaziabad, Varanasi, Gorakhpur and other districts affected by the flood.
According to the meteorological department, isolated places over eastern UP are very likely to witness heavy rain and the region will also see “thunderstorm accompanied with lightning”.
On Sunday, the Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner’s office said that the state witnessed 2.2 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours (from Saturday 6 pm to Sunday 6 pm ). According to some reports, since June 1, the total rainfall in the state has reached 636 mm.
